Mission Statement

Broadfield Farm is a unique dressage based facility that is focused on selecting and producing the completely “made” sport horse.  While dressage is, simply the French word for training, America has never fully embraced what the European cavalry tradition has always known: that every horse can and should be trained to the campaign level (that is our modern third/fourth level). Such training results in a horse that is a pleasure to ride, a horse that is easy to handle and that generally retains his soundness well into his second decade without artificial veterinary means, and a horse that is able to go on to compete at the highest of levels whether in the hunter field, the dressage ring, or the jumping stadium.

Horses produced by Broadfield Farm have won national championships at all levels and in all disciplines: Que Sera subsequently trained by Geoff Teall and then ridden by Derek Braun was a national children's hunter champion and is still winning in the adult hunter division; Incognito competed at the national equitation finals in the Medal and the Maclay championships under Geoff Teall’s guidance; Bonaire was a nationally ranked Prix St. Georges and Intermediare I competitor; Granolito was the Region 3 Young Rider (YR) Prix St. Georges Reserve Champion in 2003 and 2004 North American Young Rider Championship (NAYRC) competitor with Amanda Silver; Kingston took top placings with Kelly Whyman in the High Amateur Jumper Division at the Winter Equestrian festival 2004; Cameron de Mesillé was the 2003 Region 3 USDF First Level Champion and nationally ranked in the FEI five year old division in 2003 and six year old division in 2004 ... and is currently winning in the pre-green division on the AA hunter circuit; Angela Princell with Le Baron was the USDF Region 2 YR Reserve Fourth Level Champion in 2004; Allie Nichols and Lexington won the Region 2 Third level and Fourth Level YR USDF Championship in 2004, the Intermediare I USDF Region 2 YR Championship 2005 and were members of the Region 2 gold medal NAYRC dressage team 2005; My Way Too and Kelly Whyman qualified for the 2006 Ariat Medal Adult Equitation Championship and were the 2007 Littlewood circuit champions in the adult equitation division … the list goes on despite the fact that Broadfield Farm rarely has more than a dozen horses in training at any given time.

With our network  of contacts Broadfield Farm is able to locate extraordinary young horses in Europe for reasonable prices; with our expertise we are able to develop these horses so that they succeed in the discipline that best suits them (though all of them reach the afore-mentioned campaign level); and with the support of  our team that includes head groom Alberto Mora, master farrier Dean Pearson, rider/trainer Sasha Newman and coach Patrick le Rolland we are able to maintain the soundness and work ethic of our fully rounded equine athletes. Not only does Broadfield farm devote itself to the training and presentation of young horses like Que Sera or Cameron de Mesillé (currently competing as Majestic Dream) but its program is uniquely suited to the retraining of horses and riders that are not currently meeting  performance expectations – Allie Nichols  and her horse Lexington came to Broadfield Farm in 2003 unable to perform a credible third level test – they finished in 2005 as gold medal winners on the Region 2 Young Riders Team. Classical training does exist – and it is neither elitist nor arcane. It is fully and simply explicable and is accessible to anyone willing to devote himself to an education in horsemanship.
